Karns Girls Win State Rugby Championship
Maryville 3, Karns 22

The Karns High School girls bested Maryville by a score of 22-3 in the championship match of the Tennessee High School Rugby State Championships, played in Brentwood Tennessee, to become the 2006 State Champions.

Karns reached the championship round by beating Brighton High School of Memphis 48-5 in the semi-finals, while Maryville moved into the finals by defeating Riverdale High School of Murfreesboro 55-5. This set up a rematch between these two fine programs from East Tennessee.

Led by Tournament MVP Emily Pajcic, Karns pounded away at the Maryville defense with hard nosed running and constant pressure throughout the match. In the end, the running of Pajcic made the difference.

Scoring for Karns was led by Emily Pajcic with two trys (10 pts.), Ariana Hoss with one try (5 pts.), Katie Seals with one try (5 pts.), and Pat Hoss with a conversion kick (2 pts.). Maryville scored on a lone penalty kick by Jenny Beaman (3 pts.).

Three of the girls from this match have been have been selected to participate in the USA U19 Women's National Team trip to Colorado June 5-16th. These players are Candace Barley - a freshman home schooled student that plays for Maryville, Jenny Beaman - a senior from Maryville High School, and Emily Pajcic - a senior from Karns High School.

The USA U19 team is scheduled to play two games as part of the U23 National All Star Championships June 9th-11th and follow this with two international matches against the Canada U19 Women on June 13th and 15th.
